Chicken and Gravy

It's approaching the time of year when chickens start to lay eggs.  (Oh for those of you who don't know, farm chickens don't usually lay eggs in the winter time.)  I can remember my mom starting to save the eggs so that we could get several hatching in before cold weather.  She would save at least 12 eggs and the first old hen that started staying on the nest all day got the eggs.  The hen would sit on the nest (the natural incubator) for 21 day and then their would be baby chicks hatch out.  There is nothing cuter than a mama hen and her babies!  Then when those babies get just the right size we would kill and eat most of the little roosters. You might think that sounds mean if you don't know where chicken nuggets come from!  It was a big deal for us and the process of going out with my dad and picking out the one that was just right was a memory that I'll always have.  We would size each one up til we picked the best one, then mama would make fried chicken, grav

Don't Lean On The Door

I have told you and told you, don't lean up against that door.  You are a very lucky young man that mama was quick enough to catch you!  Now shut that door really good and stay off of it.  My heart was racing as I had just pulled my fourteen year old son back inside the car!  He was leaning up against the door so he could look at me while we talked.  I had already told him not to lean on the door and as we turned the corner to head for home the door came open.  I reached over and grabbed his shirt in the middle of his chest and pulled him back in the car.  He had a huge hand print where I hit his chest as I was grabbing for him, small price to pay for not going out the door!!  His response was, "boy that was scary!".  Yeah, a little to scary for me! Even with the mandatory seat belt laws, I still see children from infant to teens without their seat belts.  I know all the controversy that surrounds seat belts, but wearing one saved my life.  Please take all the precauti

Valentine's Day

Today is suppose to be a special day to honor the love of your life, be it puppy love or a love that's stood the test of time.  As with all the other special days that we hold dear it has become so commercialized that it is no longer special.  Cupid's arrow now cost you more than you can afford.    I can remember when it was enough to get a single rose and a simple card but for the younger generation that simply isn't good enough! I'm still old school...A rose is just a rose whither it be one or many if the one who brings them is not sincere.                               A diamond is just a piece of coal if the one who gives it doesn't give it from the heart.                               An expensive meal is only as good as the one you share it with.                                Here's to true love, may it never make you blue                                Remember it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Mommy, Mommy I can't see!

It was a typical morning, got Jimmy off to work then took a nap till our precious little boy woke up.  We had breakfast then the daily task of cleaning house.  He was all of three and was in his room playing, and I was cleaning in our room when all of the sudden he started hollering, "Mommy, Mommy I can't see!".  As I was running for his room I said what's wrong!  When I got to his room he says, "I got my eyes closed".  Scared me to death!  I hugged the little rascal and told him he shouldn't scare his Mommy like that.  Hmm!  That was only the beginning of scare Mommy to death! That was about thirty-seven years ago.  There have been a lot of fast cars and motorcycles since then, not to mention roller hockey, asthma attacks, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthriti s and the Martial Arts.  I am really proud of him.  He turned out to be really good man and a great Dad.
