It's had to believe some of the excuses people use for not coming into work. The place where I work has a very low tolerance for absenteeism or tardiness. They fired a young man last night for excessive absenteeism, why, because his ingrown toenail was hurting. I know that ingrown toenails hurt I have two of them. Some people's pain tolerance is lower than others. It hurt my heart to see him go. When he was there he was a really good worker. I'm not sure which is more unbelievable the fact that he stayed out because of his toenail, or that they let a good worker go.
I almost think it was a warning to some of the others as to just how serious this company is about being at work and being on time. We had a girl who came to work right after having a motorcycle wreck because she didn't want to lose her job.
Front Porch Stories is a place where I go to talk about things from current events to stories from my past. I hope you stop by and read a few.

Quit Whining
I wish people would just quit whining!!! Yes this country and all it's inhabitants are in for some rough times. Yes we all need to get prepared for them. However, no matter how bad it gets, no matter what hardships we face, we are still blessed to live in the United Stated of America.
My parents lived through the depression and I don't mean having to downgrade your cell phone, or get a smaller car or sell your dream house or your vacation home. I mean no phone, no running water, no inside plumbing, no car, and the choice of food was very limited. Before government handouts and bailouts, when a man's word was his bond and children really had manners, and would have never in their wildest dreams been disrespectful at home or at school.
All I can tell you is get over it!! Learn to live on what you earn and stop expecting others to pay for the choices you make. Learn how to act like a family and a neighbor, because when it all goes bad, those are the people you can count on. The small towns like where I live will ban together and help each other and we'll grow our own food and hunt our on meat. Oh, and we'll defend it and this country with every last breath in our body.

What A Great Week Off
We had a great Thanksgiving! My family and I have been truly blessed. The food was good the company even better. To top things off when I got off last Wednesday morning I didn't have to go back to work until last night. The only problem with that is I don't currently have a place to hunt. I could hunt on public lands, but in my opinion that isn't safe. So if the Good Lord allows me to retain this job until next year I will have a lease acquired so that I can spend some time in the woods.
I hope that all of you had a blessed and wonderful day as well. Family, friends and good food are a combination that is hard to beat.

Computer Died!
A couple of weeks ago while waiting on the kids to get ready to go to a football game, I got on my computer to look up a few things. When James said they were ready I turned off my computer and we left. Well I just thought I turned off my computer! It was still on when we got home and the screen was black!!! I had to take it to the local shop and they didn't know what was wrong with it, so it had to make a trip to Atlanta. Thankfully it was a reasonable fix. The automatic on-off control had gone bad and something on the motherboard was fried. I did realize how much I would miss having my computer. It is my primary source for information.
I am old enough to remember not having telephones, computers, inside toilets, dishwashers and a host of other things. So not only do I appreciate today's technology but I miss my stuff if it isn't working.
I hope everyone has a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!
